How do I find my old 401K if the company went out of business?

I have a statement dated 1997 for a 401K (MARCAM 401(K) PLAN PLAN No: 090825 that was with The Vanguard Group in PA. I called them, and they told me that the information I have is too old for them to look up.

If Vanguard was the administrator, I'm surprised that they couldn't find it. I'd call back and escalate it. Information like this doesn't just disappear.

Another thing you might be able to do is look up your former colleagues on LinkedIn and Facebook. Get in touch with them and ask if they know what to do. Someone ought to know right?
